I’ve visited Mallorca twice so far, once in October and once in May, and each trip felt completely different. Although we experienced cooler weather during our spring visit, we still managed to explore a large part of the island. One thing we particularly enjoyed was the smaller number of tourists on the roads, beaches, and at the most popular attractions.

Top 10 Best Things to Do in Mallorca
1. Palma de Mallorca – The Vibrant Capital of the Island
Palma de Mallorca is the cultural and historical heart of the island and deserves at least a full day of exploration.
The city’s most famous landmark is La Seu Cathedral, which rises directly above the waterfront and has become one of Mallorca’s most recognizable symbols. The impressive Gothic interior is equally remarkable, and even Antoni Gaudí contributed to its renovation.
Next to the cathedral stands the Royal Palace of Almudaina, which still serves as the official Mallorcan residence of the Spanish royal family.
In my opinion, Palma’s Old Town is one of the most atmospheric areas on the island. Narrow streets, hidden squares, tapas bars, and historic buildings create the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll. It’s also worth visiting the Arab Baths, one of the few surviving reminders of Mallorca’s Moorish past.
With its waterfront promenade, marina, and countless restaurants, Palma is enjoyable even if you’re simply looking for a relaxed day of sightseeing.
The capital is also an excellent base for exploring many other attractions around Mallorca.

2. Valldemossa and Deià – Mallorca’s Most Beautiful Mountain Villages
Located in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, Valldemossa and Deià are among the most beautiful and famous villages in Mallorca. Both are known for their stone houses, flower-filled streets, and spectacular mountain scenery.
Valldemossa’s main attraction is the Carthusian Monastery, where composer Frédéric Chopin spent several months. The village is full of charming cafés, restaurants, and local shops, making it the perfect place for a slow afternoon walk. While you’re here, don’t miss the famous local pastry called coca de patata.
Nearby Deià is smaller and quieter and has long attracted artists and writers. One of its greatest charms is its location between the mountains and the sea, offering stunning views from almost every corner of the village.
These two villages can easily be combined into a day trip and are part of what I consider one of the most scenic drives on the island.
Travel Tip: Exploring Mallorca’s West Coast
We chose a cloudy day to explore Mallorca’s spectacular west coast and its charming mountain villages. Starting from the south, we eventually finished the day at Alcúdia Beach.
Our first stop was Valldemossa, where we enjoyed a coffee and wandered through the historic streets. The village immediately impressed us, and because we arrived on market day, we ended up staying much longer than planned. Deià was originally next on our itinerary, but due to time constraints, we had to skip it.
We then continued to Sóller, explored the old town, and rode the famous historic tram to Port de Sóller. After lunch by the waterfront, we returned to our car by local bus.
Along the route, you’ll encounter several incredible viewpoints. My personal favorite was Mirador de s’Entreforc. If time allows, I also highly recommend taking a detour to Sa Calobra, reached via one of Mallorca’s most spectacular mountain roads.
By the end of the day, we arrived at Alcúdia Beach hoping for enough sunshine to enjoy a little time by the sea.
3. Cap de Formentor and the Lighthouse
Cap de Formentor is one of Mallorca’s most spectacular natural attractions. A winding scenic road leads through dramatic cliffs and viewpoints all the way to the famous lighthouse.
One of the most popular stops is Mirador Es Colomer, offering breathtaking views of the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea.
It’s also one of the best places on the island for sunrise or sunset photography. During the summer months, traffic restrictions may apply in certain parts of the peninsula.

4. Hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana
The Serra de Tramuntana is one of Mallorca’s most beautiful natural areas and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
Stretching along the island’s entire northwest coast, the mountain range is especially popular among hikers and cyclists. Dramatic cliffs, olive groves, mountain villages, and scenic roads define this region.

5. Visit Mallorca’s Famous Caves
Exploring Mallorca’s caves is one of the island’s most popular activities.
The most famous is Coves del Drach (Dragon Caves), located near Porto Cristo. Its highlight is a huge underground lake where visitors enjoy a short classical music concert performed from boats at the end of the tour. It’s also one of the best things to do in Mallorca on a rainy day.
Another popular option is the nearby Hams Caves. While smaller, they offer a more entertainment-focused experience with colorful lighting, projections, and audiovisual effects. Many families find them more engaging, especially when traveling with children.

That’s the cave we chose before spending some time exploring Porto Cristo afterward.
6. Ride the Historic Tram Between Sóller and Port de Sóller
Visiting Sóller and Port de Sóller is one of the most unique experiences in Mallorca. Not only can you explore a charming town, but you can also ride a historic tram that has been operating for more than a century.
Sóller is known for its orange groves, modernist architecture, and relaxed atmosphere. Wander through the town center, visit Sant Bartomeu Church, and then head to the tram station in the main square.
We took the famous tram through the town and orange groves all the way to Port de Sóller. The journey itself is an attraction. In Port de Sóller, you can stroll along the waterfront promenade or spend some time at the beach.

Mallorca’s beaches are incredibly diverse, ranging from long stretches of golden sand to hidden turquoise coves.
Some of the most famous beaches include Es Trenc, Cala Mondragó, and Playa de Muro. Many smaller coves can only be reached on foot, making them feel even more special.

Compared to popular resort towns like Alcúdia, Cala Millor often offers better value for money while still providing everything most travelers are looking for: a beautiful beach, a lively promenade, plenty of restaurants, and a great selection of accommodations.
What I loved most about Cala Millor is its long, wide sandy beach with crystal-clear water. Many hotels are located directly on the beachfront, allowing you to walk from your room to the sea in just a few minutes.

Families may also enjoy attractions such as Palma Aquarium, Western Water Park, or Marineland Mallorca.

9. Alcúdia and the Northern Region
Alcúdia is one of the most popular towns in Mallorca and an excellent base for exploring the northern part of the island.
Its main attraction is the beautifully preserved medieval Old Town, surrounded by impressive city walls. Visitors can wander through charming cobblestone streets lined with shops, cafés, and restaurants.
One of the highlights is walking along sections of the ancient walls, which provide lovely views over the surrounding area.
While you’re nearby, it’s worth visiting Pollença as well. Its most famous attraction is the Calvari Steps, a staircase of 365 steps leading to a small chapel overlooking the town.
The region is ideal for travelers who want a mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. It also provides easy access to Cap de Formentor and Playa de Muro.

Narrow streets, sandstone buildings, charming squares, and local shops create an atmosphere that feels distinctly Mallorcan.
The town’s most famous landmark is the Sant Salvador Sanctuary, located on a hill overlooking the town. A palm-lined staircase leads to the top, where you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views across Artà and the surrounding countryside.
The nearby Church of Transfiguració del Senyor is also worth a quick visit.
Nature lovers may also enjoy exploring the nearby Llevant Peninsula Natural Park.
Final Thoughts on the Best Things to Do in Mallorca
Although this list covers many of Mallorca’s most famous attractions, there is still much more to discover across the island.
