Gozo Ferry Options – Which Route Should You Take?
There are 3 main Gozo ferry options depending on where you’re staying and how you’re traveling – with or without a car.
From Valletta – Fast Ferry for Foot Passengers Only
If you’re staying in or near Valletta and traveling without a car, this is the easiest and fastest way to get to Gozo.
Since July 2023, the two fast ferry operators – Gozo Fast Ferry and Virtu Ferries Gozo — have merged into one streamlined service: Gozo Highspeed. With shared branding, interchangeable tickets, and a unified timetable, it’s now a smoother experience for all passengers.
Duration: ~45 minutes
Price: €7.50 one way (adults), €3 (children aged 4–10)
Departures: Several daily sailings between Valletta and Mgarr (Gozo)

Important: This service is for foot passengers only – cars are not allowed. Ideal if you plan to explore Gozo by public transport or hop-on hop-off tour.

From Cirkewwa – For Cars and Foot Passengers
If you’re renting a car or staying in northern Malta, the Gozo ferry from Cirkewwa is your best (and only) option for transporting vehicles.
This is the traditional Gozo ferry service, operated by Gozo Channel Line, and it’s been running for decades.
Duration: ~25 minutes
Price:
Passenger: €4.65 (adults), €1.15 (children 3–12),
Car + driver: €15.70
Tickets: Only needed on the return leg (from Gozo to Malta)

How to get there: Buses X1, 41, 42, 101, 221, and 222 all go to Cirkewwa from various parts of Malta. One-way fare: €2 (winter) or €2.5 (summer), €3 for night routes.
